I’m continuing my quest to be an educated sports fan,  so this past Sunday I attended my first hockey game. It also happened to be the last game of the season for the New Jersey Devils. After a little pre-game lunch at Scully’s, we headed into the NJ Prudential Center for some action. Check out some photos below! FYI: Devils colors are Red+Black, while the Boston Bruins rock Black+Yellow. So, you must be wondering why the stadium was infested with BLUE?!  Not only were they wearing the wrong colors, they were chanting in a foreign language.  Eager to get to…

New York City got its first little round of snow this week, which filled my Facebook news feed with a blizzard of “IT’S SO COLD!” and “OMG: SNOW!” Let me tell you—though snow in NYC is pretty inconvenient– it’s nothing compared to South Dakota.  (Quick story: If I hadn’t moved to NYC, my plan was to invent a magical machine that was a snow plow in the winter and turned into an ice cream truck in the summer.  Brilliant, right?) Anyway, I often check out South Dakota’s news websites to see what’s movin’ and shakin’ back home.  I appreciate the…

As a mom, my entire world view is seen through the lens of what the world will be for the next generations, from the way we impact the environment to our educational systems. This week I was tickled by two very inspiring thoughts on a topic that I feel compelled to share. And I hope these inspire you to help change the world as well -even if it is with baby steps. The first was learning the air-date November 14th, for ABC-TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s makeover of the Lighthouse Preschool in Nashville TN. You might remember this school –…

When I was little, I used to make my younger brother Kyle (begrudgingly) perform skits with me.  “It’s called theatre, Kyle,” I used to say as I rolled my eyes with cultural superiority.  “Hello.”  Of course, I wrote the script, was the star, and always brought down the house (read: the living room couch lined with stuffed animals).  Anyway, one of my recurring characters was a fortune teller with a crystal ball who predicted the future in incredible detail. I bring this up because today I’d like to play “fortune teller” once again; my prediction is that my college friend…

Bonjour! I was fortunate enough to visit Paris around Labor Day for the Maison et Objet Show, and to do a little trend spotting with our wonderful client at Benjamin Moore. Not only was the weather gorgeous, the Euro was down a bit, and the city was not too full since the Parisians were just returning from their summer vacances. Let’s get this out of the way. Yes, I ate a lot of macarons. I hit Pierre Herme, Laduree, Angelina, and everything in between. I am still not tired of them, and would really like another Pierre Herme olive oil…

Recently, I made my first-ever trip to the Meadowlands after a close friend scored tickets to the Jets-Redskins pre-season game. Now, although I’m an avid college football fan, hence aformentioned bleeding of orange and blue for the Florida Gators, professional football really isn’t my thing. I really wanted to go to see the behemoth stadium that’s been abuzz this summer. So I gladly accepted the offer and trucked out via New Jersey Transit to get a peak at the spectacular complex. The $1.6 billion dollar complex can house nearly 83,000 screaming Jets and Giants fans and is set to be…

Sometimes it’s hard to find a weekend activity that satisfies six-year-old twins without boring the grownups to death, or vice versa. This is the problem in our family, as we often get together with my charming niece and nephew and their awesome parents. Last weekend, on a gray, dreary day, we decided to go to the New York Hall of Science to see if it could amuse us all for a few hours. Let me tell you something. We had a great time! Frankly, some of the math and science (never my strong suits) were even over my head, but…

It happened practically overnight: Shake Shack has invaded the Upper East Side. With its soft opening this past weekend, my friends and I were already contemplating the massive amounts of working out we’ll need to combat the amazingly greasy goodness of the now-legendary New York burger joint. And can we talk about the new shake flavors featured at the UES location? I can guarantee that I (lactose-intolerance and all) will surely indulge in  the Coffee Bean Brownie (vanilla custard, brownies, coffee caramel, whipped cream)  and Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunchcrete (chocolate custard, peanut-butter sauce, chocolate toffee, chocolate sprinkles). Totally worth it….

Last week, I ventured out to Sin City for my first Coverings 2011 promotional trip. Next year, the tile + stone show will make its first appearance there, and I’m tasked with working with the A+D associations in the area. I know….. such a rough life! Anyhow, enough about my fabulosity. Here are a few fun out takes from the trip. Things started a little rocky. After my plane got a flat tire (I kid you not) and my baggage was temporarily misplaced, I missed my lunchtime meeting. Thankfully, I stumbled across one of my favorite restaurants– which I first…

It’s not too often that Twitter and poetry are used together as synergistic forces. In his clever (and successful) effort to expand his Twitter reach today, however, screenwriter Jeff Campagna announced his offer to create short poems to Tweeters who have included his handle, @AWUTI, in their “Follow Friday” tweets. Original poems for a #FF? Sweet! (If I were a cartoon character, this is when the twinkle would appear in my eyes.) As I was logged in for our client, Coverings, I took the bait by asking Jeff: He accepted my request, and within minutes: Hilarious! And not only is…
