As warmer weather settles into our neck of the woods, the sun shines longer, New Yorkers are nicer and most people make the switch to iced coffee.  Mmmmmmm… so refreshing, right? Yes! Until… …It gets so hot that you pick up your morning Starbucks and halfway down the next block you look in your hand and realize you have some sort of warm, sweaty, 1/2 water, 1/2 coffee concoction and you’re like……. Lucky for you, I’m here to remind you of the perfect solution – coffee ice cubes.  It actually gets BETTER as the ice melts!   It’s tough to…

Guest post from Vlad Unguryan – Sous Chef of Vitella’s NYC catering Since the beginning of my journey into the culinary arts I’ve been sharing meals and experiments with my best friend from college, Michelle. Fast forward 5 years and we are roommates living in Jersey City and working in Manhattan, though with conflicting schedules, our dinner dates have become much less frequent. We recently made our way to the awe-inspiring Murrays Cheese shop in the West Village. Needless to say, when you walk in the smell alone is enough to make you buckle at the knees. A half hour of tasting and ordering later…

I’m not ashamed to admit that I have an addiction. The feeling I get after a long fresh-air run is incomparable. Mind cleared, lungs cleared, pure relaxation…no matter how many thoughts are swirling through my head or how many commitments are looming, the world freezes for a short moment in time and I find my bliss. The first few months after I moved to Manhattan I made an effort to seek out the best, most scenic running paths in the city. Below are my recommendations for anyone in need of some runner’s therapy. 1. East River Park For those New…

I.love.lucite. Always have, always will. I come from a perfectly-organized home of little lucite holders and cubbies for q-tips and cotton balls, earrings and office supplies, a familial obsession that has obviously been passed down. I hate for things to clash, and lucite always goes. I’ve seen a lot of bad eighties lucite, but, lately, i’ve also seen a lot of really, really good lucite across multiple categories. Come along, and i’ll show you why it’s a clear choice. Ha ha ha. Iomoi does fabulous, preppy customized lucite trays. I’m not preppy by any stretch, but I love how these…

Wandering past Gramercy Park earlier this week, I was overwhelmed by the sudden emergence of nature’s first greens and golds. And peaches and pinks and creams and butters and lavenders. God, I miss the colors when they’re gone.  So springtime has returned to our city, and as a lifetime fan of Weather In Which It’s Appropriate To Wear Shorts, I welcome it back with wide-open windows. I’ve already started itching to trade in my heavy wools and dark denims for some soft, breezy cottons and 73’ degrees in the shade, and this year, for a new bloom of sartorial inspiration,…

An early Spring in NYC brought all the beautiful blossoms out in the trees in one of my favorite hoods…Park Slope. Snapping away as I make my way to a Sunday brunch of fresh guacamole, made right at the table in a stone bowl… coupled with *several* bloody Mary’s that were hot and spicy and a flawless accessory to the meal …or maybe the meal was the accessory! Ha.  From there let’s travel to a private party hosted in Williamsburg for ridiculously yummy cupcakes… …stopping along the way to pick up the newest flavored Tic Tacs at the Duane Reade….

Having recently moved to Manhattan, I’ve discovered that one of my favorite aspects of this city is its rich culture and devotion to the arts. I am constantly inspired by the artists that surround me, whether in my classes at F.I.T., while waiting on a subway platform or at a performance. Over the past eight months I have made a conscious effort to dive into the community by attending musicals, symphonies, ballets, modern dance performances, as well as museums and art galleries. Out of these experiences, the one that stands out in my mind was the Art After Dark event…

On Tuesday, In a page out of the Murphy’s Law playbook a gentleman by the name of Richard Siewart Jr. took on the job of Chief Public Relations Officer at Goldman Sachs.  One day later, Goldman executive Greg Smith published an Op-Ed article in The New York Times after resigning from GS over conflicts with the company’s culture. He felt the organization was rife with indecencies and disrespect for clients, in direct opposition of its founding principles and intended public persona. While we don’t know much yet about the newly minted celebrity Mr. Smith, who today found his disclosure the…

Today’s Guest Blogger is Emily McGill of The Hartman Group. The Hartman Group is a playmate of VP+C – learn more about our current collaboration here. Emily says: We have had a new officemate at The Hartman Group this week, Princess Mia.  I’m not sure why, but I always feel the need to call adorable lady puppies “Princess.”  Miss Mia has been a welcome addition to our office family, helping us through a crazy week (I blame the full moon) and bringing joy to the office in a time when we are nose to the grindstone, trying to get everything…

Today marks the start of Holi, a Hindu religious festival that comes at the beginning of each spring. You may not know its name, but those of us captivated by color have at least caught a glance of Holi festivities- the holiday is also known as “Festival of Colors” and is distinguished by spirited gatherings and parades where celebrants toss brightly colored powders at each other. It’s a gorgeous riot of happy faces, vibrant hues, and fun…right up our alley! I love this video! While a quick Google search reveals Holi (also known as Phagwah) celebrations worldwide, I wanted to give…
