This week, I had the pleasure of sampling yet another “new” line of cupcakes to appear on the New York City landscape. Georgetown Cupcake is probably best known from DC CUPCAKES on TLC, which showcase these wonderful sweet treats by sisters Katherine and Sophie.             Opening the box revealed goodies so good looking that I paused to think, “Oh my, should I even eat such beautiful desserts? And if so, which one do I devour first?!” I smartly cut them into halves so I could enjoy multiple cupcakes without feeling as if I was eating…

Recently, I realized that although it was a mere half mile away and free to Long Island City residents and MoMA members (we’re both- so fancy), I had never been inside PS1. So, I checked out the hours, packed up the family and marched over to see what we had been missing. As it turns out, we’ve been missing a lot. We got there shortly before opening (the walk was embarrassingly quick- this happens a lot in my neighborhood as Queens is much smaller and closer than it seems) and joined an eager crowd of young families, hipster types and…

Today marks the start of Holi, a Hindu religious festival that comes at the beginning of each spring. You may not know its name, but those of us captivated by color have at least caught a glance of Holi festivities- the holiday is also known as “Festival of Colors” and is distinguished by spirited gatherings and parades where celebrants toss brightly colored powders at each other. It’s a gorgeous riot of happy faces, vibrant hues, and fun…right up our alley! I love this video! While a quick Google search reveals Holi (also known as Phagwah) celebrations worldwide, I wanted to give…

Anyone who lives in New York City experiences the highs and lows of the MTA. I had my lows this weekend, as the L train shut down again, between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Since I live right outside the L, I felt beyond frustrated when I had to look for other ways to leave Williamsburg. As annoying as the trains can be, there is a certain amount of creative atmosphere that I have always admired in public transportation. You can see different nationalities, professions, ages and personalities congregating in the same space, all sharing one way to travel. I have always thought…

Believe it or not, PDA isn’t my thing. No one wants to see strangers cooing or cuddling unless it involves a baby or puppy (perhaps even a kitten). Sure, sometimes a smooch on the subway is warranted; a hand hold over hot chocolate can be justified, too. But, for the most part, personal space in public is paramount if you want to play with me. At least, that was my steadfast stance up until 10 minutes ago when my fingers found Design Milk’s post on Touchables, a clothing concept created by New York-based designer Drew Stanley. Fashioned to encourage intimacy…

Self-professed food snob and organic junkie Steven here to share my latest dining adventure…. I decided to take advantage of Restaurant Week (on the last night, of course) and try out a new spot downtown.  When a friend and I stumbled upon Kutsher’s Tribeca, and I saw the menu and I “Yes, I want this.”  Little did I know it was one of the “new” must-check-out spots, having recently been reviewed by The New York Times. I arrived early with my friend and were going to grab drinks at the bar, but they were able to seat us  at a…

February, a month commonly known for its frigid temperatures and short days, could use a bit of citrus infusion. While winter in New York has been unseasonably warm this year, the city lacks the vibrancy and color of spring and fall. But who’s to say we can’t brighten things up ourselves? This month, the VP+C team shares tips and tricks on how to incorporate color into your life…orange you glad? Julianne’s Fruitful Fashion: Last week I attended a fashion show that inspired me to liven-up my wardrobe with juicy colors. Joy Cioci presented a stunning collection at Lincoln Center and…

Rice is nice — or, so I’ve learned — for those who’ve accidentally dropped their iPhones in the toilet or were unaware it went through a full wash cycle when doing household laundry. Plunging the device in a bag of uncooked rice for a period of time is recommended because it absorbs the water and may reverse the damage incurred by its inadvertent liquid plunge. Mind you…tech Luddite that I am, I’m the last person on the face of the earth who should be doling out advice about iPhones. But, I have it on good authority that this is…

Color of the month: Summer Peach #2167-70               Tis the season to not be jolly, and endure  ho-ho-horrific weather. In an ignited resilience I summon all VP+C colleagues to ignore their chattering teeth and frostbitten toes and instead embrace blissful denial! We shall not succumb to the miseries of New York winter! With that in mind, I choose  Benjamin Moore’s “Summer Peach” as the color of January .   Lisa Likes “Barbie feet”- For me, this color evokes one of my all time fashion favorites- the nude patent leather shoe. The right pair is…

Don’t get me wrong, I love kids. But, for the past 20 something years I haven’t really loved the idea of having my own….err, until now? Mamas and mama-wannabes, have you peeped the Pin Pres? This playful, poppy push shelf was dreamed up by OOO My Design, and oh my is it cool. Like the Pin Point Impression Steel Toy of yesteryear, the life-sized Pin Pres perfectly adapts to the shape of the item(s) placed on it. And, it’s sure to make cleanup time more fun for tots (I know it would for this big kid). Added awesome factor: it can…
