A new blog feature, in pictures. Our resident man-about town, Steven Shewbrooks, shares his latest finds and faves: From the West Village to Park Slope, from hand-made prosciutto tortellini… …to a devilish meal of organic onion rings, organic fries, organic ostrich burger coupled with a glass of organic Malbec… I never tire of living and eating in NYC. From these neighborhoods, let’s travel to SoHo, where an insane Peanut Butter Jelly cookie… …is the perfect compliment to the spicy tuna sushi and quinoa salad I had for lunch.   And to top it off…a trip to Whole Foods to pick…

This week, I had the pleasure of sampling yet another “new” line of cupcakes to appear on the New York City landscape. Georgetown Cupcake is probably best known from DC CUPCAKES on TLC, which showcase these wonderful sweet treats by sisters Katherine and Sophie.             Opening the box revealed goodies so good looking that I paused to think, “Oh my, should I even eat such beautiful desserts? And if so, which one do I devour first?!” I smartly cut them into halves so I could enjoy multiple cupcakes without feeling as if I was eating…

Believe it or not, PDA isn’t my thing. No one wants to see strangers cooing or cuddling unless it involves a baby or puppy (perhaps even a kitten). Sure, sometimes a smooch on the subway is warranted; a hand hold over hot chocolate can be justified, too. But, for the most part, personal space in public is paramount if you want to play with me. At least, that was my steadfast stance up until 10 minutes ago when my fingers found Design Milk’s post on Touchables, a clothing concept created by New York-based designer Drew Stanley. Fashioned to encourage intimacy…

It’s that time of year again–the season of scarves, mittens, and Peppermint Mochas from Starbucks. In celebration of the upcoming holiday festiveness, I’ve asked my colleagues to share their favorite something that’s “red and green.” Surrounded by beautiful Benjamin Moore hues every day, it’s easy to spend an extra few minutes with the color decks to find your personal faves. For me, Cedar Green and Bullseye Red take the Christmas cake: And speaking of cakes, my all-time favorite thing that’s red and green are, no suprise, Little Debby Christmas Tree Cakes. My grandma used to have these fully in stock…

Last Monday I was lucky enough to attend the Barneys New York opening ceremony of GAGA’s WORKSHOP, a transformative holiday retail experience in collaboration with Lady GAGA.               For the holiday season Barneys teamed up with Lady Gaga to create GAGA’s WORKSHOP, which represents Lady GAGA”S reinterpretation of Santa’s iconic workshop. Under the direction of Nicola Formichettei, with artists Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson, the entire fifth floor of Barneys was transformed into GAGA’s playground for her “little monsters”. The entrance was marked by a giant façade of Lady GAGA’s mouth–giving the illusion…

We just want to give a shout out to our friends at New York Spaces who rocked it out in lots of leather and lace at last week’s NYDC Masquerade Ball. Lookin’ good guys!

Last night, VP+C participated in an annual tradition: supporting the design industry’s most festive night of the year! Kelsey, Meghan, and Josh represented the team at The New York Design Center’s Masquerade Ball, which gathers some of the city’s most creative minds for a night of costumes, cavorts, and…cheese. The Ball raises money for The Alpha Workshops, which, since 1995, provides training and employment in the interior design arena for those living with HIV/AIDS. This year’s theme, “Roaring 20’s,” brought out lots of flappers, a Charlie Chaplin, and a walking Mondrian painting, among others. Our crew dressed up as some…

Attention New Yorkers: I’m about to let you in on a secret that will change your lives. Since I moved to the city from Connecticut, I’ve been missing out on my favorite food: mashed potato pizza. Pick your jaw up off the floor and wipe that quizzical look off your face. This culinary masterpiece is one that is near and dear to my heart. And in a city with countless pizzerias, I’m flabbergasted that I’ve yet to find one that specializes in my favorite treat. I know what you’re thinking – what the heck is mashed potato pizza?! Allow me…

There’s no denying the Italian obsession that’s recently taken a hold of our country. Just turn on your TV. You’ll find Jersey Shore, Mob Wives, Real Housewives of New Jersey. Love it or hate it (I personally love it), there’s no way to ignore the influx of Italians. This weekend I attended what I consider to be the true original of Italian American celebrations–the Feast of San Gennaro. The annual celebration is dedicated to the Patron Saint of Naples, and the first feast in New York City took place in September 1926. Taking over Mulberry St in the Little Italy…

Long gone are the lackadaisical days of summer—things are beyond busy now. So last night, in an effort to recharge my batteries, I treated myself to an evening of couch surfing while chowing down on a pint of Mint Chocolate Cookie ice cream and checking out really, really bad T.V. shows, like the Charlie Sheen roast. In between bites and browsing I webbed around to get all caught up on the latest and greatest offerings from my fave furnishing companies. While many of my findings were fabulous, the pieces that made me do a double take were the following chairs from Room Service.
