Japanese Pond @ BBG Cherry Lane at NYBG

In anticipation of imminent sunny days, I spent this past weekend admiring two of New York’s most beautiful wonders; The Brooklyn Botanic Garden and The New York Botanical Garden. I admit, it’s a little unusual for one person to visit two gardens in one weekend, but this was due to the fact that my folks were in town and my grandma is completely obsessed with flowers. After seeing the Japanese Pond at BBG and the Orchid Show at NYBG, I can see why Monet, O’Keeffe, (and my grandma) were so inspired by Saison de Fleur. My vote for favorite seasonal attraction goes to the Sakura cherry blossom trees. I can’t get enough of the cotton candy-like clusters that gently sit atop the bold tree trunks.

The blossoming flowers are also a sure sign that the days are getting warmer. I cannot wait to bury our winter coats in the closet and bring out the spring dresses and short shorts! I’m from California, and this will be my first official spring in New York.  Outdoor dining, rooftop bars, and laying out in Central Park sound picture-perfect. And I will definitely be making another trip out to the gardens soon!

On the next sunny day, I suggest you take full advantage of the great outdoors and explore the city’s other boroughs. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is located on the eastern border of Prospect Park and the New York Botanical Garden is right next to Fordham University in the Bronx. Carpool with your friends or take a 20-minute train ride from Grand Central Station to either of these locations. BBG and NYBG are a must see in the upcoming months!
