Run, Run, As Fast As You Can

I’m not ashamed to admit that I have an addiction. The feeling I get after a long fresh-air run is incomparable. Mind cleared, lungs cleared, pure relaxation…no matter how many thoughts are swirling through my head or how many commitments are looming, the world freezes for a short moment in time and I find my bliss. The first few months after I moved to Manhattan I made an effort to seek out the best, most scenic running paths in the city. Below are my recommendations for anyone in need of some runner’s therapy.

1. East River Park

For those New Yorkers living in the East Village, Lower East Side, or Alphabet City this path is convenient, well kept and scenic. I personally like to start at 14th street and head south along the lit path that’s currently lined with blossoming tulips and marigolds. Along the way I pass a soccer field and tennis courts, and on my return, the most beautiful view of Midtown and the Upper East Side.

2. Hudson River Park

Spanning from the Meatpacking District down to Tribeca and the Financial District, the Hudson River Park is a true Manhattan gem. I was in awe the first time I discovered this multipurpose park with separate paths that accommodate runners, bikers and rollerbladers. The energy on weekends or after work hours is contagious as individuals smile and say hello in true New York fashion. The view of New Jersey and the Statute of Liberty at sunset is certainly worth a stretch break.

3. Central Park

Earlier this year I ran with the Niketown running group that meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings and jogs for an hour through Central Park. I would highly recommend this free program for anyone in need of a little motivation! Over 100 individuals meet at the 5th Avenue store and head out on a preset route usually around the Jackie O Reservoir. The canopying trees, beautiful ponds and gorgeous skyline views will take the breath of any New Yorker; it certainly took mine.

I’m always looking for new paths to run so feel free to send recommendations my way!

Happy Jogging!
