We are so excited to have two (charming, brilliant, talented) new interns here at VP+C. Get to know Victoria and Jessica, below.
Victoria Fancies These Florals:
Ever since my childhood, I’ve loved flowers. I’m not sure if it’s a product of the bright colors, or their delicate petals, or just the fact that I’m a girl. Either way, I know I’m not alone, and that got me wondering: why don’t we use flowers in more interesting ways in advertising? Today’s use of flowers is narrow. They elicit romance, special occasions, and the daily lives of every single Gossip Girl character created. But people connect with the floral image for many other reasons, and that makes their relevance far more expansive.
I read an article recently about a Japanese marketing firm that’s thinking along the same lines. I&S BBDO created an ad for a funeral home, Nishinihon Tenrei, that represents the human body via a layout of flowers.
It’s an interesting concept, especially in the context of the pervasive negativity of news media. The buzz created by the ad is, I think, testament to the powerful aesthetic of florals, as well as the potential they hold beyond their current marketing use.
Jessica’s Musings on Design and Functionality
Until recently, makeup, jewelry, perfume and more covered my dresser, with organization a vague priority. Not knowing where to start, I walked around my local HomeGoods store, and then it hit me: storage boxes. This inexpensive French-themed, versatile box set brought style and functionality to my space so I can finally see through the clutter.
Here are a few tips to help you decide what’s needed:
Take inventory of what you have: Know what you need for storage for and how much clutter you need to store.
Coordinate with your decor: Find a design that fits your room by researching prints that you like and visiting vintage shops. You never know what you’ll find until you look.
