Living on the Upper East Side, I walk through construction daily and have watched the toll its taken on local businesses. But the folks at Maloney & Porcelli, located on 50th between Park and Madison avenues, really have turned around the unfortunate construction outside their restaurant for the betterment of New Yorkers, with the advent of the “Construction Club.”

The tongue-in-cheek website is encouraging the construction to be completed on time with offers of an open bar for every milestone completed. For instance, there are roughly 34 days (at the time of this posting) until the foundation is scheduled to be laid, according to a handy time ticker on the website. If the foundation is completed on time, the establishment is saying bottoms up, offering an open bar to all “Construction Club Members.”

Sign up for Maloney & Porcelli’s Construction Club for free and receive a fancy lapel pin and membership card. Members should bring these to the open bars, if the construction crew actually complete their projects on time. Also on the construction schedule, sidewalk excavation (June 10); Asphalt stripping (July 16) and install reinforcing (August 13).

And let’s not forget those construction workers! They get a free steak dinner if the entire project is completed on time. Now that’s some tasty motivation!
