Hello Meadowlands!

Recently, I made my first-ever trip to the Meadowlands after a close friend scored tickets to the Jets-Redskins pre-season game. Now, although I’m an avid college football fan, hence aformentioned bleeding of orange and blue for the Florida Gators, professional football really isn’t my thing. I really wanted to go to see the behemoth stadium that’s been abuzz this summer.

So I gladly accepted the offer and trucked out via New Jersey Transit to get a peak at the spectacular complex.

The $1.6 billion dollar complex can house nearly 83,000 screaming Jets and Giants fans and is set to be the venue for most major concerts and entertainment events in the New York metro area. And it’s also one of the most sustainable sports complexes built today. According to its website, the new Meadowlands has employed a number of practices to help conserve its impact on the environment including energy and water conservation methods, recycling programs, community initiatives and wetland and wildlife protection.

Watching the Jets from the endzone. Can't beat it.

Once I was inside, the gigantic screens, bright lights and booming music brought me back to my college football days. I was in heaven. And then it happened. The University of Florida Gators former quarterback, who played back in my college heyday, was starting for the Redskins! I immediately turned into paparazzi, trying to get the perfect shot of Rex Grossman. He may not have been a Heisman winner, but it brought back some great memories watching him on the field.

There he is, #8!

For some reason, the Jets fans I went to the game with did not find it as entertaining when I kept cheering for the “other” team. Oops.
