Color of the Month: Deep Royal #2061-10
I love navy blue. To me, it’s a warmer-than-black wardrobe staple, a nautical nod, and a decor “do,” no matter the season. After months of prodding, my beleaguered husband finally agreed to let me have our bedroom painted this rich, inky Benjamin Moore hue that knocks out pretty much anyone who sees it.
Margaux says “Oh, Navy”
Our torrid affair is never ending – one riddled with both admiration of your classic cool elegance and angst over your formality at times. You were my dream bedroom shade – voted against by the Italian side of the family as too dark. You were my dream choice for bridesmaids to wear at my wedding– again voted against by the Italians as too reminiscent of school uniforms they were forced to wear their entire childhood. Ironically Italians embrace you more day to day than any other group of persons I’ve ever encountered but apparently your deeper meanings and intricacies are much more complicated – the depths of which I will never fully understand and the mysteries behind which remain exciting to me.
I worked with a designer who was at the side of Ralph Lauren for many years and Mr. Lauren was known to deliberate for hours over the perfect shade of deep navy – perhaps he is one of the few who really get you.
And yet to me you represent the terrific base and edge of preppy that is not yet black. You are the finest denim, fully comforting. You are everlasting and strong. You are peaceful. You are deep and at times misunderstood. I understand this. And you will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Kelsey’s favorite thing in navy is a New York Yankee.
The second the season starts, I’m consumed with every pitch, every game and every play-by-play. From Jeter to Cano, A-Rod to Posada, Granderson to Swisher – I love my men in blue and white! It’s pride, power and pinstripes for this New Yorker because there are no better azure ambassadors than my beloved Bronx Bombers.
Meghan got a hold of this…
A couple of years ago, in my former editorial life, I found and phoned in this little piece of door jewelry to photograph for an article about knobs. The moment I unpacked it from its fancy cloth box and held it in my hands marks when I became totally turned on by architectural hardware.
This far out work of art, which is fittingly called Cosmos, was dreamed up by Sun Valley Bronze and noted artisan Jesse DeMoss. It’s shaped from brilliantly colored hand-blown borosilicate glass, and its intricate pattern puts a stunning spin on traditional-style knobs. While it’s not inexpensive—if memory serves it costs somewhere in the high one hundreds / low two hundreds—the impact it would have on your interiors makes it well worth the splurge. Price aside however, if blue’s not your bag, or the design’s too out of sight for your likening, check out svbronze.com for its lineup of 20+ kudos-worthy knobs. You’ll fall in love, trust me.
