Jourdann Goes Pink.

Even with temperatures cooling and chic fall coat wearing a must, pink is the perfect shade for October’s Color of the Month. The femme hue is not only representative of Breast Cancer Awareness, but it’s also a hot trend.

On Peony: “Taking its name from the lush bloom that symbolizes romance and prosperity, this deep pink has a hint of black that makes it ideal for those who seek a vibrant color that’s not overpowering,” says Benjamin Moore.

The expressive tone pairs gracefully with dark gray, as shown in the photos of interiors below. Slate décor accented by pops of pink make a bold yet elegant statement.

Margaux Gets Fresh.

Peony pink florals- particularly perennial fall favorite Dahlias– appear to be an October trend of their own. All the chicest parties seem to be making them the current star. Shown here, they are mixed with candleholders from the new Paola Navone collection for Crate and Barrel and were also spied at the launch party for Thomas O’Brien’s latest book, Aero Beginning to Now.

Victoria Girlies Up.

I’ve never quite hit the girly nail on the head. As a kid, I declared my favorite color to be black. In high school, athletic shorts and baggy t-shirts were a daily uniform. And, as a twenty-something – (a true lady never reveals her age) –, my design tastes gravitate more toward leather than lace. Pink is a femme classic that’s always felt just a shade too sweet.

Funny, then, that two of my favorite movies are “Legally Blonde” and Peter Sellers’ “Pink Panther” series (no disrespect, Steve Martin). For the uninitiated, “Legally Blonde” features Elle Woods, a pink-obsessed Cali girl who moves from sorority sisterhood to Harvard Law in an attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend. And, the Pink Panther movies are set on the premise of a priceless pink diamond that gets stolen more often than second base, with the bumbling Inspector Clouseau following its trail.

There’s logic to my love of these cinematic masterpieces, though. They’re tales of pink-gone-dark, whether via smartening up a bubblegum shade, or tainting it with uncouth humor that’s painfully funny. Peony does the same: its hint-of-black hits that perfect junction of feminine and edgy. If the beauty of design lies in the unexpected, October’s color of the month is as design-savvy as my newfound desire to paint my kitchen stools peony. Here goes nothing…

The Throne Vroom…

RV Throne

On our recent RV trip, one décor update made a serious impact on everyone who entered the vehicle. I’m talking about that irresistibly bold, shockingly bright, peony velvet chair. That pop of pink from Calico not only proved to be a perfect focal point in our mostly-navy interior, but also a universally flattering perch for every man and woman who took a load off on it. The color just made everyone look happy and, well, hot.  So, if you want to look hot, take a tip from the PR_RV and upholster your favorite wingback, club or slipper in this stunning hue.
