The term bohemian is traditionally defined as:
In that case, it is the perfect name for this secret little spot I enjoyed eating at this past weekend – an exclusive restaurant with an unconventional restaurant operation:
It may not look like much on the outside, but once you make it through those doors and into the quaint space, you instantly feel as if you were in your own home.
“Bohemian is a secret Japanese dining room located in NoHo in a property formerly owned by Andy Warhol. The restaurant gets its name from the fact that is considers itself “a hide out for the bohemians of the 21st century” in what was also the former home of the famous street artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.” – Eat the City
With only six tables, this quirky restaurant is one that requires an invitation let alone a reservation. If it is your first time seeking an experience at Bohemian, they ask that you are either referred by someone who has already visited or that you email a brief introduction of yourself, which they review to decide whether or not they would like to invite you over for a meal.
Friends and I eagerly entered the restaurant for our 6pm reservation for its 3 hour pre fixe tasting menu. It began with some light cocktails and moved on to…
The freshest vegetables I’ve ever tasted, dipped in none other than the greatest edible ever created – cheese.
AKA the best burger I have ever had.
And last but not least…
Every dish was delectable and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. And most importantly, it was the most comfortable dining experience that I’ve encountered–simple decor and seating that leaned so far back I actually had to fight the urge to fall into a food coma.
