Neutral colors will forever be a fashion staple. They continue to be chic, timeless, and easily paired with trends in any form- clothing, shoe, or accessory. Trends come and go, bright colors quickly become an eyesore, but pair them with a neutral and you will find harmony. Black, white, brown, gray, camel, navy, and all shades between, contrast, enhance, and bring together colors and prints.
This Sunday at the Simon Spurr 2011 Fall Winter Show, I witnessed all three of my fashion favorites all at once- neutrals, large hoods, and male models (mmm, eyecandy!). The show was held at Exit Art and the venue was filled to maximum capacity. This season’s display was much more hectic than the last due to a significant increase in attendees at this seasons show – which unfortunately resulted in a lesser view for photos.
Though we were packed in like sardines, I enjoyed the show very much. I was particularly intrigued by this season’s unique choice of runway material. The models strutted their stuff on a black carpet, a saavy choice which brought the color scheme together nicely while creating a cool casual display. Aside from its visual aesthetic, the carpet functions as a practicality in the model safety. Carpeting provides a little give which enhances comfort, while the friction prevents any slips or falls. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of this in the future.
Check out my quick cell phone clip of the show finale:
The final walk through of looks was a visual medley of neutrals in a continuous flow, which inspired my own look of the day!
Happy NY Fashion Week Everyone!
