If there is one thing I consider my obsession, it’s television. I know it’s not something that people usually brag about, but I tend to pride myself on my depth of television knowledge and the passion that I have for all things on the small screen.
Since I started at VP+C, I have found a new passion – interior design. All of a sudden, I’m stashing last month’s House Beautiful in my bag as I leave work, and planning redecorating weekends with my roommates. And while I’m certainly not the resident expert on interior design at this office, it’s safe to say I’ve found a new obsession.
You can imagine my delight when I recently discovered a new television program on one of my favorite channels, Bravo: Million Dollar Decorators. Showcasing the world of lavish, extreme and completely un-affordable interior design, the program follows six California-based interior designers as they extravagantly embellish the homes of the rich and famous.
Ok, I’ll admit it; the program is wildly unrealistic. The average American isn’t dropping two million bucks on an ottoman. And the characters, well, they’re a little over-the-top. During a recent episode, designer Jeffery Alan Marks, after completing a radical redesign, sits down, clutches his forehead and proclaims, “Sometimes, I think my job is more important than the President of the United States.”
All judgments aside, the show is my new guilty pleasure. The breathtaking beach homes, the billion-dollar budgets, the mind-boggling breakdowns – ladies and gentlemen, set your TiVo’s!
Million Dollar Decorators airs Tuesdays at 10pm EST.
