It’s a debate that stretches back further in time than Jon vs. Kate…Coke vs. Pepsi…and even dinosaur vs. caveman. And it’s a debate that we’re happy to duke out on our blog: the Yankees vs. the Mets.
Last week, both Josh and Nicole attended their first NYC baseball games. Josh headed to the Bronx to cheer for the Yankees, and Nicole made her way to Queens to root for the Mets. (See where this is going?) After sharing their baseball stories back at the office, the colleagues have steadfastly pledged allegiance to their respective teams, and the bitter rivalry has begun.
Who should win the epic battle? Well, the obvious conclusion was to have the two plead their cases on the V+P blog with Lisa—who prefers glitter over baseball and is therefore unbiased—as the judge. Fun fact: Lisa is extra unbiased since she grew up with parents (currently Yankees fans) that now swear they never took her to Mets games growing up (she has bats and hats to prove it.) She’s too confused to care.
Up first is Josh; Nicole will counter. Let the sparks fly!
Josh, with Yankee pride, writes:
1. You know a sports team is out-of-the-park (literally) when it influences Broadway, i.e., Damn Yankees. Both the original show and its revival were hits, being nominated for and winning several Tony awards. The original production took home Best Musical. (Do the Mets have a Tony in their trophy case? I don’t think so!)
2. Pinstripes. It’s obvious that the Yankees are the better team, also, based on their signature uniforms: stripes. Backing me up on stripes-are-so-in-right-now are fashion blogs Fashionising.com and StyleClone.com.
3. Baby Ruth candy bars. This candy bar totally got its name from the legendary New York Yankee Babe Ruth. If you’ve ever taken a bite of the bar’s chocolate, peanuts, and nougat…you know “what team to bat for.” (Ahem, the Yankees.)
Final remarks:
Go, Yankees, Go!
