A Traveler’s Wish List

I’ve been on a business travel tear lately. While I may bemoan the flight delays and hectic schedule, I really do love it. From the cast of characters I meet to the unusual destinations, every trip is its own adventure. (And believe me, I have some stories to tell!)

The more I travel, the more I crave stunning hospitality design. From beautiful art installations to sleek wall coverings and bathroom fixtures, exceptional design can completely transport us into another world, even if it’s just for a night or two.

So when I read Travel + Leisure’s 2010 Design Awards, I immediately started compiling a travel wish list from this year’s recipients.

Here’s a brief list of my favorite winners. For the complete story and slideshow, click here.

Best Spa
Mondrian in South Beach

Agua Spa at Mondrian South Beach

Agua Spa at Mondrian South Beach

What do you get when you combine great weather, gorgeous people and ridiculously expensive fruity cocktails? Throw in a shimmery, monochromatic spa, and it’s a recipe made in heaven.

Best Transportation
Swiss International Air Lines First-Class Suite

Swiss Air... Now that's luxury!

Swiss Air... Now that's luxury!

Most days, I’d just like to have enough space when I fly to type on my laptop without shoving my elbows into my travel neighbor. But this lofty cabin design tops my travel wish list. A fold-away desk AND lie-flat bed? A-MAZ-ING.

Best Travel Accessory

MZ Wallace Kate Bag

MZ Wallace Kate Bag

Every business traveler needs a good bag. I’m using a combination of a black nylon Kate Spade and a tote bag that I snagged from NeoCon last year. It gets the job done, but isn’t ideal. This may just be my new “Kate.” It’s geared toward stylish moms, complete with a baby changing pad… but the six accessory pockets and a smaller, detachable purse are ideal for anyone who’s on the go and has a ton of stuff. And it has a tiny interior pocket just for my metro card… I’m telling you, this bag is practically calling my name!
