As part of the #VPCHomeTour series, where we take a walk in each team member’s shoes and explore their neighborhoods and favorite haunts, Michelle Shen, vice president, shares her Jersey City gems:

I made my move into Jersey City over five years ago, with the mindset that I’d eventually inch my way back into NYC. But, after settling in and exploring a little, the idea of ever departing makes my heart hurt.

I consider myself a lucky gal to live right across the street from what I think is one of the area’s best kept secrets – The Liberty State Park (LSP), aka my happy place for escaping, tanning, picnics, running, biking, scenic views, fishing and all the other fun things.

Spanning over 1,100 acres and just less than 2,000 feet from the Statue of Liberty, the park’s sweeping views, expansive landscape and rich history makes it my beloved backyard sanctuary.

To my delight, the main entrances are hidden behind a highway ramp, and with a lack of sensible signage, it’s not easy to find if you’re unfamiliar with the area.The park is so vast that it’s never crowded and you often feel like you’re enjoying a personal playground.

I always say the best view of the NYC is from right outside its border – below are snaps from several vantage points, including a secret beach area and a nature conservatory with winding boardwalk paths completely covered in greenery that makes you feel miles and miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Other attractions and happenings in the park include:

The historic NJ Railroad Station that shuttled materials and workers at the height of the region’s industrial revolution in the 19th century.
