The PR RV’s first day was unlike any other, honestly. Driving an RV halfway across the country with your colleagues would be unique under any circumstances, but we’re cruising down I-80 under very plush circumstances, without a single spat or speeding ticket between us.
Despite being caught behind a tractor on a winding country road, we managed to squeeze in some amazing activities. First stop was Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, outside Pittsburgh. The setting is enough to take your breath away. But the house. Oh, the house. It is truly a marvel. If you haven’t been and you love architecture like we do, book your trip now.
Having skipped a real breakfast, we were famished by the end of the tour. We made our way to Conflict Kitchen in Pittsburgh. We’d read about it on Roadtrippers, and thought the concept was genius: the pop-up (a favorite VP+C format) restaurant serves cuisine from a single region of conflict at a time, rotating menus, graphics and even programming to focus on places like Iran and Cuba. We shared ropa vieja, lechon and yucca chips, and sipped guanabana and hibiscus aqua fresca.
The last stop before we climbed back aboard for the trip to Toledo (where we’ll be glamping overnight) was a duo of Andy Warhol sights. We risked life, limb, and prosecution to get some great shots of the Andy Warhol Bridge, which has been beautifully yarn bombed, and then stopped by the Andy Warhol Museum for a peek through the (sadly) closed doors. Yes, we were late, thanks to that 2-mile-an-hour tractor. But, you charmed us, Pittsburgh, and we’re betting we will be back for more soon.
