The Max Report

Back To School 2014 – A roundup of this fall’s interesting news, reads and notes under the umbrella of design and experiences for our collective radar screen.

People

In the age of content, we were charmed by this beautiful story about the rebranding of beloved textile company Schumacher, and Dara Caponigro’s recent work there as Creative Director. Her editorial eye, married to the rich history of the company and its archives, makes for an exciting fabric renaissance right now.

Although we are all on bucket dumping visual overload, (though very happy for the awareness it’s bringing ALS at the same time) we have been fixated on this particular one.

That means 2 hair blow-outs in one day for Anna – WOW. And every marketer under the sun is trying to figure out what next summer’s big catchy campaign and beneficiary will be!

Places

Late to the party that everyone else has been dancing at for years, I recently discovered the awe-inspiring beauty of Pebble Beach California, the 17 Mile Drive and the Big Sur. My new bucket list includes a stay in a treehouse at the Post Ranch Inn – during whale watching season!

And for those who may ever find themselves in Vegas on business or actually want to go for a quick getaway – we are uber excited about the new SLS Las Vegas Casino Resort, set in what was formerly the classic Sahara hotel (think the movie Casino), it now offers a refreshing, cool alternative to the over-scaled strip with some of LA’s best culinary offerings, entertainment and shopping (7 Fred Segal Shops inside!).

Things

If you did not get a chance to see it this summer – do visit the Whitney Museum in New York before October 19th to catch the extensive Jeff Koons show… everyone is buzzing about the play-dough…

And while all the fashion industry is finally praising the return of flats, The Brooklyn Museum opens “Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe” on 9/15 – it’s expected to be a must-see.

Meanwhile a Matisse show focused on his “cut-outs” opens in October at the Museum of Modern Art expecting to delight and inspire.
